Our People

Vera Matthews

Vera Matthews

Head of HR & Finance

I joined the organisation in 1994 and have been actively involved in its development, including the merger in 2007, the restructure in 2009, and the company rebranding in 2010. My commitment and passion for the Indigo Group’s success is unwavering. Providing the kind of care and education for your child as we would for our own sits at the top of my agenda. I am committed to our vision and the value we bring to parents, families, and the local economy.

My most recent role of Group Finance & HR Manager has provided many challenges and opportunities. Specifically over the past 7 years, I have worked and learned alongside our previous CEO with a shared vision and solid commitment to that vision. During this time, I have accomplished significant achievements, both personally & professionally. I can empathise with working parents, having graduated with a BA in Accounting in 2014 while having 3 children at home and working full-time.

There are exciting opportunities ahead for the Indigo Group, with the opportunity to work with Glasgow City Council delivering a 55-place Early Learning Centre in the East End of Glasgow. I have the pleasure of working alongside a fully committed and diligent Senior Team and a highly skilled, experienced workforce, who are the heart and soul of the organization, all working together to achieve the highest quality care for you and your child/young person.

I am a HR practitioner with over 25 years’ experience in all aspects of HR within public, private, and third sector organisations. In 2006, I set up Verus HR Ltd, which provides a bespoke Human Resource service for small to medium-sized  companies, allowing them to have the HR service they need when they need it.

As "my own boss", I now have greater opportunity to become involved in work which is non-HR related and has been of interest to me, and I am hugely interested in the work which The Indigo Group undertakes, not only because it is in itself interesting, but also because of the wide-ranging impact it has on all of those who use the services. I am keen to bring my experience wherever I can, to help to grow and develop the services which we offer and to continue to provide our service users with the services they want and need.

I am a solicitor with Scottish law firm MacRoberts LLP, working day-to-day on commercial and regulatory matters in the technology, intellectual property, charity, data, and health spheres. Over the past ten years I have also worked in a voluntary capacity in children’s and youth services, both directly with service users and as a service coordinator.

Having lived and worked in and around Glasgow for most of my life, I know how amazing the people of Glasgow are, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with Indigo and the people of Castlemilk (and beyond!) to provide an outstanding childcare service for our young people and children.
